Born in France in 1979, Thomas Pourcelot moved to Taiwan in 2016, after several years of wandering in different parts of the world. This itinerant mania, like a concrete manifestation of the “praise of flight”, was a series of constructions, deconstructions and pragmatic regenerations which constantly founded his personal and professional experiences.

It was not until quite late, around 2012, that Thomas Pourcelot began painting. Self-taught, his works are first oriented towards "semi-automatism" and abstract expressionism following a largely empirical approach. His personal experiences, his studies in social and political sciences as well as his reflections on the very process of artistic creation quickly lead him to immerse himself in questions related to psychoanalysis, political philosophy or sociology. Who speaks in me? How are individual choices made? Where am I going as an individual or as a social being? How is collective thought constructed? These reflections, always moving, in a continuous back and forth, and which ultimately will never really leave his works, are essentially found in the various works of a period ranging from 2012 to 2018. The artist then turns towards research including automatic writing, geometric abstraction and bounded rationality VS individual action determinism. This period will be a sort of transitional stage since one or two years later, it will form the basis of new creations including geometric abstraction and deconstruction of traditional mandarin characters.
